Many times I have gone into peoples homes and did repairs that cost them multiple times more then if they would have called me in the first place.

Some easier projects that most people can handle are painting, baseboards, or installing a shower pan. This might sound difficult, but all you need to do is buy the base the size you require, then install the drain assemble, and place over the drain. Now level off the the pan with shims. And screw the pan to the frame of the bathroom. Of course you need to check for leaks before installing the drywall or you could be in trouble. Another easy project is the shower drain. As you have just read this simply sits in the drain assembly or gets glued into the assembly. When you set the base on the drain if you are not using the glue type of assembly you need to use a rubber gasket to keep the water from leaking out.

Some other jobs that become more difficult are things like framing and dry walling. These do not sound hard, but if you mess up your walls will look horrible afterwards. No amount of mud can fix an even slightly crooked wall. Another difficult job is installing shower tile. If you are good at doing tile on floors then this might not be too hard. I am not talking about the tile that goes on your shower walls, but actually the tile that goes on the shower floor. Unlike laying tile on a regular floor you will have to install a liner to keep the water in the shower. One little mess up with this and you have huge problems.

Another job that is not difficult, but not a favorite of mine is roofing. Is you are not afraid of heights then this might be easy for you to replace your own shingles and save some cash.

A fortress in the middle of a river.

The name Brussels (Bruocsella) is first documented in 966. It means “chapel in a swamp”, and likely refers to its position on the Senne River. The settlement itself had probably been founded between three and four hundred years before. The earliest fortification on Brussels Island dates back to around the end of the 10th century.

The story of Grand Place (in French, or Grote Markt in Dutch), the town square located at the middle of Brussels, leads us on a journey through the city’s history. Grand Place was created as a market and business square, but soon attracted the trade guilds and city officials.

Necklace Of The Spanish Inquisition

One doesn’t normally associate beautiful jewelry with the time of the Spanish Inquisition. But in the Smithsonian Institution’s collection of gems, there is an exquisite necklace holder stand of diamonds and emeralds.

It is an incredible double row of diamonds and emeralds finishing in a chandelier of emeralds. There is unfortunately very little information about the provenance of this necklace holder. The big diamonds and Columbian emeralds were most likely cut in India in the 17th century. This would make them one of the earliest examples of cut gemstones in the Smithsonian’s Collection. They are really only legends surrounding this necklace and what kind of necklace display stand were used in this era. They indicate that it was worn at times by Spanish and French high class society. In the early 20th century, it was purchased by the Maharajah of Indore, whose son sold the necklace in 1947 to Harry Winston. Winston then sold the necklace to Mrs. Cora Hubbard Williams of Pittsburgh. She bequeathed it to the Smithsonian in 1972.

Emeralds are a type of crystal known as beryls. Beryls are normally clear crystals, but when infused with chromium or vanadium, they keep various shades of green. The shiniest green are the rarest emeralds and many people actually like an emerald that has a blue-green tint.

Before the 16th century, the only known emerald deposits were in Cleopatra’s Egyptian mines. But after emeralds were found in Columbia, those later became the “gold standard” in emeralds. Columbian emeralds have been discovered by archaeologists among artifacts of such tribes as the Inca, Maya, Aztec, Toltec and the almost unknown Chibcha Indians.

Ah Paris! La Reve des Temps Du Vie!

I have only been to France once, but I did a terrific amount of research in advance for flights to Paris, lodging while there and all of the places we wanted to see.
